KNOWING GOD – THE GOD OF MIRACLES – Lesson Eleven
KNOWING THE GOD OF MIRACLES AS THE PRAISEWORTHY ONE:
Psalm 33:1 – Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
It is fitting for the upright to praise him – This has been the case from creation. Note:
Job 38:4-7 – 4“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. 5Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone–7while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy
All the angels – NIV note: Hebrew the sons of God
Revelation 4:8-11 – 8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”
9Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
Refer to Matthew 6:9-10 – 9“This, then, is how you should pray: “`Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven – Therefore, in light of Job 38:7 and Revelation 4:8-11, the righteous (the upright) ought to praise the GOD OF MIRACLES.
Note Luke 19:37-40 – 37When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40”I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out – This shows that praising the GOD OF MIRACLES is essential.
It was customary for praise to be demanded by earthly kings, even though some were undeserving. Note Nehemiah 2:1-3 – 1In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before; 2so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.”
I was very much afraid, 3but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”
The King of kings, however, is praiseworthy, as the following Scriptures show.
Psalm 75:1 – We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds.
Your Name is near – Exodus 15:3 – The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.
Exodus 3:14 – God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.'”
I AM WHO I AM – NIV note: Or I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE
Exodus 3:15 – God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, `The LORD, the God of your fathers–the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob–has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
The LORD – NIV note: The Hebrew for LORD sounds like and may be derived from the Hebrew for I AM in verse 14.
This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation – See John 11:3, 12, 21, 27, 32, 34 and 39, where Jesus is called “Lord.”
Psalm 33:4-5, 18-19 – 4For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.
18But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Refer to previous lesson – 2 Kings 8:1-6.
Psalm 108:4 – For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Application: Like the psalmist, Psalm 75:1, let us thank the Praiseworthy One that His name is near; thus:
Psalm 33:20-22 – 20We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
Note Psalm 83:18 – Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD–that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
