TRIBUTE TO SISTER RAPHY LAWRENCE

TRIBUTE TO SISTER RAPHY LAWRENCE

As Sister Richards sang one Lord’s Day at The Sanctuary, the tears flowed freely from Sister Lawrence’s eyes. Her testimony later revealed that the tears were not just tears in response to the nostalgia of the song being rendered but in fact she had received healing from a medical condition that had dried up her tears. The miracle lasted! It lasted so much so that just before her passing one tear rolled from her eyes and unto her cheek while she softly and adoringly spoke the words, LORD, then she breathed her last. Sister Lawrence’s final word on her death bed supplied the title for Pastor Williams’ sermon at her homegoing service.

According to Hebrew 6:10, For God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown for His name as you have ministered to the saints and continue to do so. This scripture embodies the life that Sister Lawrence led, and the faithful reward she received from the Lord. She operated in the gift of helps and did so in all different spheres, from combing children’s hair to have them ready for Sunday School, to teaching young adults and children to play the organ. This was an instrument that she had mastered and for many years had used her skills to glorify God during worship services at the Montego Bay City Mission Church.

Sister Lawrence’s life spoke for her and so “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15). As we ponder her life and the awesome miracle she experienced,  let us endeavour to  walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, (Colossians 1:10).
